I'm English and have always lived in England but when I was about 11 years old, in return for a favour I did for an old lady, a friend of the family, she gave me a book of postcard size prints of paintings of America. Long roads, disappearing into the distance, quietness, telegraph poles, the odd gasolene station. I realise now that some of these paintings must have been by Hopper but not all were. The book fascinated me but over the years it got lost and I have never been able to replace it. I think this painting is beautiful and haunting and it reminds me of my first images of America. Thanks Chris for that. (Sorry, I would buy if I had the spare cash.
